There's only one person you can depend on in this world, and that's yourself." GENERAL INFORMATION NAME: Maverick Chase NICKNAMES: Mav by the few people who might almost qualify as a friend. Rick by those who have no sense of self preservation. RACE: Human AGE: 20 GENDER: Male SEXUALITY: Asexual RESIDENCE: Anywhere there's room enough and at least somewhat clean enough to lay down. In other words, no where in particular. OCCUPATION: Mercenary, Ex-noble, renegade HAWK PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION REFLECTION: When was the last time he had even bothered to look in a mirror, other than just a passing reflection? It felt like ages. Then again, fussing over his appearance had become a trivial matter after he gave up--or had it been stolen--his luxurious life as a noble. Standing at a height of 5'10" and hovering around the 155 lb mark, he didn't cut that impressive a figure. He was thin and lithe, hard, sinewy muscle cloaked beneath his clothing. Not a bodybuilder, but not a skeleton either--just in between. His hair was silvery white with a bluish purplish tint. He kept it short, the longest strands reaching the base of his neck. His bangs were long and swept to the side to completely cover his left eye, but somehow not enough to obscure his vision. If someone were to manage to look under this "curtain", they would find a blood red eye, the same as his right. Cold and hard, they betrayed no signs of emotion. Annoyance and skepticism were the most common expressions to grace Maverick's face. Aside from occasional moments when he was unable to disguise his surprise, he maintained a nonchalant mask. A layer of white bandages was wrapped around his neck. It completely covered his throat, but the man knew what he would see if he were to remove it: a series of thick scars, standing out white against his peach-colored skin. It was a mark he would carry until the day he died, and one he would keep under wraps (literally) till then. Next to the bandages, he also had a tendency of wearing tops with taller collars to even further hide the wounds from prying eyes. When it comes to his fashion, Maverick is known for his monochrome tastes, not including the occasional dark blue or purple. Ranging from blacks to grays to whites, he prefers the darker tones. Perhaps as a result of his upbringing as a noble, he dresses somewhat neatly in comparison with many other mercenaries. At least, he avoids wearing ripped or filthy articles. FACE CLAIM: Xerxes Break from Pandora Hearts PERSONALITY AND MORE THE GOOD: The 'good' aspects of Maverick's personality are perhaps the least noticeable. The most prominent being his independence and ability to stand on his own. He's come to believe that having to rely on anyone else is a sign of weakness. As a result, he can easily be classified as overly independent, to the point that he absolutely hates having to ever accept help from anyone, let alone ask for it; the one plus side to this is that it's easy to tell when things are seriously bad. A determined individual, once Maverick has set his sights on something, he won't rest until he reaches it. Definitely not the type to give up, it'll take more than a few ups and downs to make him accept failure. Whenever he bothers to "speak", it is with much straightforwardness. If ever there was a person who was "too honest", it would be him. Of course, considering he can't utter a single word, it's only natural that he doesn't mince words, and says things as it is--candid to a point that it's almost mean. Ever since being rendered mute, Maverick has learned to be quite perceptive of things. He's a good listener, attentive to details. Then again, listening is about the only thing he can do in a conversation lest he write out what he wants to say; he does do that when necessary, mind you, so he's not completely incapable of communicating. Also, while he may come across as a rather...nonchalant and unsociable person, he does display occasional flashes of a conscience. Unfortunately, he rarely shows it, and if he does, it's only towards a select few people who managed to get through his icy shell. Better than nothing, anyway. THE BAD: Maverick is, in almost every sense of the word, incredibly cold. He's apathetic and detached; nor does he bother to hide it, which tends to drive people away. He keeps a tight reign on his emotions, expressing little interest, with his most common expressions being either annoyance or blatant disregard. Normally coolheaded, once pushed over the edge he can become quite aggressive. He prefers solitude. His inability to talk is an disadvantage, yes, but even if he could, it would be most unusual for him to actually seek companionship. He purposefully avoids attachment or allowing himself to get close to anyone. After having been betrayed by his best friend, he's convinced himself that friends would only stab you in the back one day. It's hardened him in more ways than one. His own well-being comes before anything else, doing things more for his own benefit. If it happens to help some others, then hooray, he could hardly care less. Thing is, his self-interest prevents him from doing things out of the good of his heart. He's distrustful of everybody. One of his motto's is that one can't rely on anyone but himself. And so, loyalty is one of things he tends to lack since he won't hesitate before betraying a partner in crime to get what he wants. He keeps his word if he's getting paid for services rendered--in other words, a job. Merciless, Maverick will do anything for the proper reward. Few are ever able to find a way into his heart, and it is around those that his resolve tends to falter. Not unlike his perseverance, the mercenary is extremely vindictive. He's all for revenge, and will strive to get it if it kills him. BELIEF: Oh, he believes in the existence of Aureole alright, just not in the way one would think. If anything, the only times when he WEAPON SLOT: Jericho 941 - a 9mm semi-automatic handgun with a custom port. Maverick often attaches a removable silencer since the port makes the sound of the gunshot even louder. LIKES AND HOBBIES: Maverick is a simple man. Not really--but he has simple tastes. He likes few things, one of which is money, and lots of it. As a mercenary, he's willing to take on just about any job as long as there's a fair payment in return. Besides that, he also prefers being by his lonesome, to be left alone--is that too much to ask for? Of course, part of it is mostly due to him unable to actually say anything back. He tends to people watch when he has nothing else to do. DISLIKES AND TURN-OFFS: He hates a lot more things than he likes. Mainly people. He hates traitors with a passion, which is ironic considering his own lack of loyalty. He carries a very low opinion of them. He's easily irritated by the people who tend to pry, and who keep poking their noses into things that have nothing to with them--or anything he doesn't like to discuss. Blabbermouths who can't stop talking always rubs him the wrong way, as do any mention of Aureole. Maverick dislikes having to repeat himself any number of times. You just have to be literate, for goodness sake! ASPIRATIONS: At the top of his list is to track down his old friend and somehow wreck vengeance on him. After that, he just wants to accumulate enough venny to be able to afford the life of a noble. Or, as he's convinced himself, get his old life back. LOOKING BACK: The youngest member of family nobles, his parents had extremely high expectations from him. He sought only to please them , but nothing he did never seemed to be good enough for them, so proud and egocentric as they were. Thus, his best memory was when he became a HAWK airman. It was the first time he managed to earn more than just a grudging word of approval. Puffed with pride, Maverick continued to serve to the best of his ability. Alas, it was a short-lived victory, blighted by something that became his worst memory. A few months later, Maverick saw his best friend, who was in the same crew as him, sneaking off to meet none other than a sky pirate. Patriot that he was, he followed suit, and was shocked to discover that his comrade was passing on inside information--battle plans, blueprints, and what not--to the pirate. He rushed out without a second thought to confront them. Lo and behold, the other HAWK turned on Maverick after but a moment of hesitation. Taking a knife to the throat, Maverick was silenced forever, rendered mute. Now that's enough to ruin anyone's day, but it was the consequences that really made it as bad as it was. When back-up arrived, his friend subdued the pirate after striking a deal to help said pirate escape later--if, of course, the pirate didn't turn him in and instead framed Maverick. Well, they got away with it, especially after swearing in the name of Aureole that it was the truth, and nothing but. For awhile, Maverick had waited for the god to punish them--had they not lied under her name? wasn't she supposed to be 'good'? so why did she not punish them?--but his faith, rather than turn to doubt, became scorn. But anyways, he was written off as nothing less than a renegade, and booted off of the force. No where left to go, he went home. He'd expected sympathy, but received only fury and disgust at ruining the family's reputation, which ultimately led to him being disowned.
