DECISION HAS BEEN MADE! So I have a very important question for you guys that will decide the course of this site for the many years it will remain open. And I wanted us to discuss this before I put up a poll that will finalize the decision. Any way, for the longest time I've had an idea for another site in my head. I really love this concept, but I also love THE BLUE and I know that if I open up another site while keeping THE BLUE open, both sites will probably suffer. Frankly, I do not have the time to manage two sites, but I also don't want to put the idea I have up for grabs on ON THE EDGE or any other resource site. I'm afraid if I do that, someone will take it and not give it the love it deserves. It's my baby, just as much as THE BLUE is. And of course, closing THE BLUE is not a card on the table. I don't even want to think about that, so no worries to anyone reading and panicking that closing THE BLUE was ever an option. What I'm proposing is that I merge the two ideas - THE BLUE, and this other concept, called GLOW*NATION - together. This means that there will be some changes in the set up of the site and character races, but overall, the places, the gangs, all of that will remain the same with some revamps. The changes are as follows: - The site will no longer be taking place on post-apocalyptic Earth, but rather an original world called Vespera, where the sky always looks as if the sun is setting.
- Aureole will still be a goddess and the religion will still be upheld, but she is not the main goddess any more. Rather, there will be several gods. She will be the goddess of wind, but the main goddesses will be Lior and Lamya, the goddesses of light and darkness respectfully. There will also be gods of fire, water, storms, earth, and some minor gods. Aside from Lior and Lamya, gods will be playable characters that you can audition for.
- Pair bonds no longer occur with just birds, but with any creature.
- The level of technology will be much higher in most places, allowing things we didn't have before like television, portable music, etc. There will also be no more travel barriers between the above and below, but you still need to be wealthy or a servant in order to live in the above.
- Magic will be added to the game. Specifically, elemental magic. But it's not called magic, but rather abilities. I'm adding a magic element without the world itself being completely fantasy. I want to keep the urban, steam punk-meets-sci fi feel without crossing over into total fantasy.
- The seasons are controlled by creatures called daemons. Their migration and mating patterns cause a shift in seasons and weather. They were created by the gods in order to keep the world of Vespera in balance.
- Mutants, Chimeras, and Cyborgs will no longer exist. Rather, they are being replaced by Mods. Mods are people of any other race that have gotten modifications. Modifications can be anything from super strength to animal ears to cyborg parts. And yes, a person can be a super fast, half-metal, kitty anthro if that is what you desire. Basically, this race will cancel the "your character can only be a mutant, chimera, or cyborg" rule.
- Shades and Halos will be actual playable races, but they are not the same creatures that we have on here.
- The name will change to GLOW*NATION. I think that's the only thing I won't be looking forward to if we decide to run with this. TB... won't be TB any more Even though it'll still have a lot of the same places and concepts.
The following will be races added to the site (I already mentioned Mods so I didn't add them): - HALOS: Halos are the people of the light. Their chemical makeup is very close to plants and they are therefore capable of performing photosynthesis. Their skin absorbs light, and their bodies convert the light into energy. If they away from light for more than five hours, they will wither into a husk and die. The longer they are not in the light, then the weaker they will grow. Their lifespan usually lasts for two hundred years, with old age setting in around a hundred and fifty.
Halos have fair skin, light eyes, and light hair. Many dye their hair vibrant colors. No one is born with dark colored hair, and dying one's hair color dark - the natural color of a shade - is considered an act of rebellion and is punishable by death.
- SHADES: Shades, or the shadow dwellers, are a tribal people who eat light in order to survive. Unlike halos, their way of eating light requires gathering light in their hands using black magic and turning it into edible stones known as ember stones. When light is eaten, it naturally makes the place where the light was taken from much dimmer than before. Without eating ember stones, a shade will grow weak and eventually starve to death even if they eat an abundance of other food. Shades can be in the light for about three hours before they weaken; if they stay out any longer, they will burn and eventually spontaneously combust. Some shades have sacrificed their lives by allowing themselves to die this way so that their body can serve as a highly effective bomb against their enemies.
Shades have fair to dark skin, both light and dark eye colors, and are always born with dark-colored hair. Some dye their hair color unnatural colors, but never dye their hair bright colors as it would be considered an insult to their people and would render them a social outcast.
- HUMANS:Humans are feared, respected, and despised by both the halos and shades. That is because the existence of humans is a huge insult to both races. You see, humans are the children of one shade and one halo parent. They are the ultimate creation: they can be in both the light and the dark, and that scares their parent species something awful. That is why both the halos and the shades always try to win the sympathy of the humans, but the humans either always stay neutral or strike a temporary deal with the ones who are currently in power. Some humans choose sides, but the vast majority do not. Since it is considered 'fashionable' to have slaves in the empire, humans who were caught siding with the shades are sold there.
The skin color, hair color, and eye color of a human always varies. The humans group also includes modified humans such as people with robotic and animal parts. Their life span is typically eighty to a hundred years.
Humans are always the result of two human parents, one shade and one halo parent, one shade and one human parent, or one halo and one human parent. A human with either a shade or halo parent and one human parent is capable of performing black magic or white magic depending on the parent.
- THE TAINTED: When a halo, shade, or human is either clawed or bitten by a daemon and survives, they are 'tainted' and are one day destined to turn into a humanoid version of the demon that tainted them. Because of this, the tainted are the most despised and pitied out of all the species of Vespera. They are no longer considered people: they are considered monsters.
The tainted go through three stages of development: level i, level ii, and level iii. Level I occurs days after the tainting and involves the tainted person to take on features of the daemon that tainted them. This includes hair and eye color, as well as losing any species-specific abilities and vulnerabilities if they were a shade or halo before the tainting. Since daemons are elemental creatures, level i includes the gaining of abilities specific to the daemon, Level II consists of gaining more animal-like features that are consistent with the type of demon that tainted the person, such as sharp claws, teeth, and scales. They also gain more power and control in their element. Finally, level iii involves the complete breakdown of the tainted's mind: they are crazy, vicious, and always in the mood to rampage. They have lost all sense of being human, and instead seem to only follow their baser instincts. They also have complete control of their elemental abilities.
Going from level i to level iii varies from person to person. It could take weeks, months, or even years. However, using the elemental abilities of a daemon significantly speeds up the process of transformation.
- GODS: The Gods are the creators of Vespera. In spite what some mortals might say, the majority of the gods do not give a damn about mortals. They have the ability to create life from nothing at all, but they must always keep the balance in order to preserve the peace. They are technically forbidden to have love affairs with mortals but none of them follow the law. The leaders of the gods are the twin sisters Lior and Lamya, the goddesses of light and darkness respectfully. Mortals believe in the gods but they do not know that they actually exist.
- DEVIS: An immortal creature created by a god to serve as a companion and servant. A devi’s appearance is whatever the god desires upon its creation. They can only be destroyed by their creator, and they cannot physically disobey their creator either.
- KEEPERS: Keepers are the offspring between a god and a mortal. They are the guardians of Vespera, charged by the gods with protecting the world from absolute disaster. Keepers have remained hidden for centuries because they are shape shifters that can take on any form they wish. They are also gifted with the ability to teleport from one point to another. While not immortal, they do age very slowly and can only die if killed. Mortals are not allowed to know of their existence.
So um... WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK? Yay, nay? Do you have questions? I'm going to put this up for a vote next week, but I want general opinions and feedback before I sprung a poll on you.

I'm always looking for new ways to play. So I'm pretty up for the change. Anything that gets more people playing together gets a big thumbs-up from me. If I can be honest, one thing that might be holding back this site IS the travel barrier between above and below. Yes, it's an awesome idea in terms of having a fully-fleshed and believable world, but at the same time it limits character interactions, and when the bulk of characters and threads seem to center on above, I can't see it as a good thing anymore.

I've always loved your insanely huge imagination, Kitten. If it's not one awesome idea, it's another. I can't even begin to imagine what else is laying dormant in that noggin of yours. You also have a horrible habit of sucking ideas from my head before I even have time to write em down...-fist shakes at Keepers-
It's all very interesting, for sure, but I can't say I'm down with the merger.
Maybe it conflicts with my ideas and plots and planning I've had in mind that makes me say no but that aside, I actually really like the place as is. I think TB has plenty more potential to be put into it, plenty more to be explored and brought to light without a full-blown overhaul. The whole barrier between Above and Below I actually find interesting...but...meh. -squirms-
If you guys decide to go through with it, I'll stick around, but I don't think I'll vote for either or. I'm just being finicky cause I have all these ideas in mind that will probably be chucked out the window. If need be, I can just start over, I suppose...^_^''

Oh wow. My brain just exploded with all of the awesome ideas you've just suggested. I am in complete awe of all of these ideas and rather dumbfounded that you can come up with two so amazingly original concepts for entire worlds. Trust me, I know how hard it is to flesh a site out in its entirety and you do it so flawlessly, I feel like I should kiss your boots. <3
For all of the love and respect I have for this new idea, especially how many new members it will definitely bring to TB, it might be a little too much of a change for TB standards. Some of the changes are certainly beneficial, like the Mods and pair bonds and technology, but the 'magic', gods, and alternate races are very very different from the world that TB is right now. I fear it will alter the TB reality too far from its original concept and ruin all of my plot ideas!.
That being said, if you were to merge the two site concepts --which I think is possible even though I'm not a complete fan of it-- if you were to merge the two sites, I think it would have to be a slow process rather than an overnight flip-flop. By introducing these new aspects one at a time, in say monthly site & plot updates, TB can retain as much of its original flare as possible and the current characters can change IC, accepting these newly discovered aspects of their world.
In the end, and although I'm sorta siding with Dim on this one, TB needs a fresh set of RPers. For some reason, and it hurts me to admit this, TB's activity is lacking (Or maybe that's just me?). We needs more active posters if this place is to survive, merger or not, and this idea merge might be just the ticket we're looking for.
Another thought is --and don't hurt me for this one, Pasc. I know its a doozey to think about-- is to make both sites separately and hire new staff from within the TB family to help keep TB going. Having a separate set of hands specifically for TB & GN (haha, it's already got an acronym!) could take a huge weight off your shoulders while still ensuring TB got the love it deserved. That is, if you're willing to share your baby and I certainly know I wasn't going to let anyone else touch my baby when I closed BRSW >>;
So yeah, there is my tl;dr thoughts behind TB & GN. I'm sticking around no matter what you do because I have nothing but respect for your creative abilities.

I am in complete awe of all of these ideas and rather dumbfounded that you can come up with two so amazingly original concepts for entire worlds. It's called an overactive imagination, and dude, it's a curse sometimes ><; For all of the love and respect I have for this new idea, especially how many new members it will definitely bring to TB, it might be a little too much of a change for TB standards. Some of the changes are certainly beneficial, like the Mods and pair bonds and technology, but the 'magic', gods, and alternate races are very very different from the world that TB is right now. I fear it will alter the TB reality too far from its original concept and ruin all of my plot ideas!. I know, the original concept will change, but a lot of it will still be in tact. But as for your plot ideas, let me know what they are via PM and I will tell you if they're possible! That would be interesting... do some of the changes slowly, as if the world was evolving! Some of that's possible, yes, but we'd still have to make TB its own original world rather than Earth, and daemons and tainted will still have to exist from the get-go. I agree, the activity did go down but TB is far from dead. For this month Hanners and I thought of an extra special contest to boost activity. And I'm a little grateful that there aren't too many new members joining right now, since right now we have a little more then what I can handle. That's why I stopped advertising TB, except to return ads, because I don't want a wave of new members at the moment. But I agree, if we do this merger, TB's activity will take on a whole other level and we'll have countless new people pouring in and interest from former members will change too. Another thought is --and don't hurt me for this one, Pasc. I know its a doozey to think about-- is to make both sites separately and hire new staff from within the TB family to help keep TB going. Having a separate set of hands specifically for TB & GN (haha, it's already got an acronym!) could take a huge weight off your shoulders while still ensuring TB got the love it deserved. That is, if you're willing to share your baby and I certainly know I wasn't going to let anyone else touch my baby when I closed BRSW >>; Why would I hurt you? XD Hanners and I are discussing candidates for the new staff as of now. This is because Aries, Edward, Pocket, P.D., Alex, and Irya are all going to be removed. All on friendly terms, of course, with positions returned to them if that's what they want. But I am looking for three new mods. As for GN, if I was to make it another site, staff will be hired within the TB family as well. If anything, if the same staff people on TB wanted to join GN, I would make them staff on GN as well if they wanted that.

... I dont know if I should be happy that my whole post got quoted or terrified XD
First off, if it is painfully obvious yet: WE LOVE YOUR OVER-ACTIVE IMAGINATION<3 *ahem* Now that that's out of the way...
In regards to my plots, they're mostly domestic. I'm sure I can work out the kinks if TB does go through an overhaul, so no worries there so long as you keep the Black Collars. Klien would be so lost without them! XD
And you know... I never once pictured Khthonia or Elysia as versions of Earth o.o Kind of like... The world has changed so much it really isn't the "Earth" as we know it anymore anyway. OH OH. THE EFFECTS OF AETHER COULD MAKE THE SKY ALL COOL AND SUNSETY. And because of that they could rename the planet? *shot* AND TAINTED AND DAEMONS COULD HAVE BEEN THERE THE WHOLE TIME, LURKING ACROSS THE JUNKYARD DESERT OR IN RAVAGELAND which explains why they're crazy AND THE GODS WOULD COME DOWN SECRETLY AND SCREW UP THE WORLD'S "NORM" BECAUSE THEY THINK ITS FUNNY. GOD PASC. LOOK WHAT YOU'VE DONE. NOT MY IMAGINATION IN OVERDRIVE TOO. *shakes not-so-angry fist*
But yes, TB is no where near dead. We have lots of lovely, lovely members that I'm sure are just as addicted to this place as I am. They should come play with me in the cbox! THEY SHOULD ALSO BRAINSTORM THINGS WITH US SO I DONT FEEL LIKE I'M BEING A PUSHY MEMBER XDDD

Am I allowed to vote? Well, you know my opinion, but...
I'm really gonna have to say no for a merger. I like the integrity of TB and it's just...well, to be honest, a lot of work to change the stuff.
PLUS the idea for GLOW*NATION sounds so, so so so so so amazing Pascy...it needs to be its own stand-alone thing.
I realize this could mean TB's attendance could dwindle but...there's always going to be people out there that like this setting more than the other one, and I'm sure there's people out there that like the other setting more than this one. And there are surely people who like both who will love to be on both.
I dunno. It's ultimately up to the members of course, BUT I am a member too, so I wanted to get my opinion out there!
I feel weird for not having so much to say D:

Wow...Well! I'm happy to know that you aren't going to close the site and that this isn't an option. Also, I just wanted to say that I love your new idea for a site called Glow Nation! But...I'm still trying to has out how I feel about these possible changes to The Blue. I will say that I'm more or less like Claus in the sense that I wouldn't mind a few small changes here and there for the site! Such as changing the site into a whole new world, which I feel is quite feasible with everything going on, also, it having other gods besides Aureole works well too! Considering we could make our own religions in the first place and more religion background is never a bad thing I think. :3 Plus, I'm in favor for the site having more technology that we didn't have, however, I do suggest keeping that limited to perhaps those on the Upside, and have the money to own the things. Also, electricity, basic lights, t.v.s and fridges in the Down Below would probably be good while more modern appliances in the Above? though I'm sure you've already thought of this and I'm just reiterating. As for the magic, I think this could work well if kept to elemental and maybe strictly to alchemists? I can understand if you would like it for all of the characters, but perhaps limiting it to alchemists, those who may have mystical powers and deal with that sort of science actually, could be better for cutting down on the fantasy and complete change? But it's whatever you want!
Although, I'm not suuuuuper crazy on the whole thing with daemons and shadows and halos and what not. I do believe this could work, considering we had things like shadows already within the game that were there meant to depress people, though, I'm just concerned with it getting blown out of proportion and turning more or less fantasy then we intend to have for the site. cause I'm still so much in love with the whole gang, sky pirate, and racer theme! Furthermore, I really hope for the changes if happen, to take place somewhat gradually as Claus said? I feel that an overnight overhaul would probably be too drastic. Besides that, I'm just concerned with the site becoming so large in plot, that it just becomes confusing and conflicts at certain points? However, I feel that we could most likely keep this straightened out with time and thinking over certain scenarios cause I'm a total pro at this, trust me. :'D Finally, I am not for changing the name to Glow Nation, mainly because The Blue is so much....more awesome in a sense? It just fits for me, and also, if these changes go through, which I'm sure some will, I would love it if we keep the main focus mainly on life among the skies and it being an important aspect of this world.
Now, for some suggestions, I'm thinking that perhaps the idea of Devis maybe a bit too much for the new races to be added, and I'm okaaayy with Halos and Shades, but it's whatever. I guess I'm more or less indifferent there, because of my fear of them turning the site more fantasy or drawing away from other things like the pirates and gangs and what not. Plus, I think the idea of having the Keepers as great! Mostly for the purpose of keeping things such as the Aureole temple and other religious places in upkeep and speakers, like ministers or religious leaders, in our religious aspect of this site. :3 Which I happen to love, cause I'm a geek like that. Also, I take it that you would let us go back and add some changes to our already made characters? To perhaps fit more of the changes in the site and other plot ideas we may have now for the characters? I feel that this would be best, and if you need help finalizing applications for that or reviewing them, I would love to help!
Well Pasc, I will say my final choice on all of this is that I have for a few changes, though, I'm not for it all, such as the name and too many new races, but I do love the ideas of them all! And saying that I do love the ideas, I do say that if you want to make a second site I would be happy to support you! Though, I feel that The Blue should maybe do a merger with these ideas first, before we think of making two seperate sites. Strictly because I wish for you too not have even MORE stress! Andddd I really love the blue and kinda want to keep it going strong and great like always! I've become really attached... :'D Finally, I saw you mention that staff positions would be up sometime and I would love to help out or be a staff of some sort if you need it! I mean...I can understand not picking me if you don't want to, because I will let you know now that my knowledge on coding and graphics is quite limited. I only know basics, if that. Though! I would be happy to manage c-box, applications, questions on the site, or anything else dealing with site maintenence and what not I suppose! I WILL HELP ANYWAY POSSIBLE GIRRRLLL!! BECAUSE I LOVE YOU AND THIS SITE VERY MUCH AND I WON'T BE GOING ANYWHERE ANYTIME SOOON. just you would like to know that. :3 Okay, so, sorry for this humongously monster of a post. But it's me, so you know. I hope I helped and this all works out for the best. It's you though, so I'm sure it will. :'D

love some aspects, but honestly - it would be simpler to just make another site.
If that's out of the question, fine, but I think it needs to be introduced as something that happens rather than altering whatevers been happening all along. I mean, these gods just couldn't figure out how to duplicate the organized chaos on earth and abduct it to their alternate universe, or something, and THEN everything would start happening - so that there would be a MASSSSSSIVE flipover for all the current characters as suddenly they're mingling with daemons and stuff. I mean, everyone would be like WTF.
The only reason I suggest something like this is because, well, there's history written on this site that has a lot to do with the current situation - gangs, poverty, mortality... I just think that adjusting all our characters would take away from what we've done with them.

I realize I'm not very active, but were this to happen I'd probably need to quit. My characters would no longer fit into the world as I'd like them too, and I wouldn't want to use them anymore -- I'd need to restart them from scratch, which would be a huge hassle (not that I rp very much right now, though), and I'm not sure I'd like the combined world. They sound awesome separately, but I think combined it would be too much and you'd lose on both sides.
HOWEVER: I am horribly inactive and don't do much anyway. I hope my opinion is considered in proportion with my level of activity.
edit -- maybe you could do some other stuff within TB, like... try to get more active plots going. I know I wanted some of my characters to mess around with the halo bird stuff; maybe something intense could go down within the original parameters of TB.
.... idk.

Here are my thoughts & suggestions about the changes and new concepts. I really enjoyed reading them, and they bring about a whole new world of possibilities that current members can try, and former/inactive members may be willing to take a gander by re-working their characters either slightly, or not at all. I do agree that it may bring in new members, though I do not think that TB's activity is lacking in any way xD It's just a season of exams for those who are studying so... yeah.
Relationship between Post apocalyptic Earth and Vespera: Vespera IS Earth, only that so much time has passed that the world has been influenced by the gods' and daemons whose existence were fuelled by the presence of aether... and eventually we know it as Vespera. Some of the traditional scholars may choose to stick to the ancient term of 'Earth'. Religion and Gods: I admit to liking having Aureole as the sole goddess, but this seems to work out pretty well too. These gods and goddesses precede over elements, and perhaps that can be explained as a way of 'returning to the basics' since the elements are believed to be the source and origin of universe and sentient beings. The idea of them keeping the balance is something that I like a lot, since that allows characters to have an ongoing decision/tug between the light and the dark. Pair Bonds & Technology: Loving the idea of having different animals as pair bonds... would this also mean that certain animals have a 'sacred' status like how birds are viewed by the Aureolites? Technology - not much to comment about the upgrade, except that we might have to refine what is accepted and what is not. Barrier between above and below - I love the idea of keeping the barrier. It makes it much more believable... besides, there are ways to get around the barrier. Magic: Thumbs up for it being strictly elemental abilities. Perhaps it's not available to everyone, since it will not be something that can be taught/learned easily. Some may have a natural knack for it, but it would be really rare to have complete mastery. Seasons and daemons: Interested in knowing about them and how they actually contribute to keeping Vespera in balance - do they part of Black magic or something else entirely? A neutral-based magic? Mods: Hmm. Not sure how I feel about this. Mods will allow greater flexibility, but I really like how mutants, chimeras and cyborg contribute to the sci-fi vibe. Perhaps we can still use the terms, albeit as a reference - cyborgs are for mods who use robotic parts; chimeras are those who are altered through gene splicing to merge with animal(s); mutants are generally those who choose or are genetically blessed with enhanced capabilities. Members can suggest other terms, or stick to having a Mod with mixed oddities etc. Name: ...'The Blue' is... just, a timeless name that fits the site full of H.A.W.Ks, sky pirates and the various gangs. It is the world I am used to, and I gotta have to say that it's hard to think of TB as anything else. I do understand the concept behind calling it GLOW*NATION, but... yeah. Maybe we can use GN, but keep the section of the board of The Blue in the Upside? Races: I commend you for coming up with these concepts! They add on to the whole 'magic' thing, which... could be a good thing.
I think that some questions that popped up in my mind is the location of halos, shades, gods, devis and keepers will be. I would imagine that the Holy City would belong to the halos, and nearby would be the keepers. Something like that. Of course, there will be some changes to the existing locations on TB, but overall I think that the races have a place to go to or at least, where they usually stay at.
Sorry if this is getting a bit long ^^" Wrapping it up right now! How our current characters will fit in with the new playable races: Give a grace period for everyone to adjust and see if their characters can fit in. Staff can help by listening to their suggestions or give some ideas. The presence of elemental abilities: Prefer to have people earn this. Status of the gangs, sky pirates, H.A.W.K.s etc: I hope to have them remain largely the same, with very minor changes if needed.

Thank you everyone who has put in their opinions and given me their honest feedback! The more I read everyone's posts, the more I felt that the concept of GLOW*NATION deserves to be its own world and THE BLUE should keep going as its own world, too. However, I am going to make some changes on THE BLUE that seemed more welcome, such as an increase in technology, Mods (I will use Kai's idea), and see what I can do about the barrier between up and down to make it still realistic but a little easier to access.
