I was curious about Alchemists and the things that they delve in. How do they go from professors to "going bad". What exactly is considered "bad" in Khthonia? Also, I was thinking of creating a character that was daughter of a Professor that suddenly disappeared. I thought that the reason could have to do with what he was researching, but since I don't have much information as to what type of research would be highly sought after besides the philosopher’s stone, I wasn't sure what direction to take. Would it be possible to create some sort conspiracy with this? I do love my conspiracy theories...

Hey there! Alchemists are more part of Elysia than Khthonia, although they can also live in Khthonia. And the professors work for the king and the major corporations... basically, they're sell-outs who are funded by the rich so that the law can turn a blind eye to their more unsavory practices.
Alchemists don't recognize the king, the nobles, or the corporations as types of authority. Rather, they believe in a system of philosopher kings: that individuals who are intelligent and reasonable should be on the throne, not people with money and bloodline. They're also lovers of science, and cannot be swayed by money to fix results the way professors are with the corporations.
Alchemists also tend to be ruthless in their studies. They will steal, kill, and otherwise go through unsavory means to get their research. Not all alchemists are like that though. People also fear them because they don't recognize religion or the king's authority.
I actually give a clue in the site info about the type of research that's sought after. And by clue, I mean it is mentioned but it's hidden... and it also mentions a special item your character can get in the game. But, basically, the research that's hot right now is that on aether. No one really knows how it got formed, why it's so powerful and clean, etc. But research on that has been forbidden by the mining and distribution companies. Alchemists believe aether is the key to the philosopher's stone, but there's also more to aether then that for them.
Yes! You can make a conspiracy, that'd be amazing and I'd love to see it! XD

/This ties in with something I was thinking about
-Synthesizing Aether?

... What about it? XD What are you synthesizing it with? Aether plus aether equals... one big chunk of aether.

If aether is a natural resource it should be possible to analyze it, figure out what atoms it's composed of, and then figure out how those atoms merge, and thus cause them to merge artificially, producing aether.
True synthesizing.

Oh! You mean breaking down its elements? That's one of the main projects of the alchemists so yes it's possible.
