"JULIETTE." Magdelayna Bentis had a way around the pit that earned her the right of way no matter who you were or what you were doing. Shouting someone's name over the ratcheting and riveting was the first sign to duck and cover, especially if you were the unfortunate soul to be named. This time, it just happened to be Magdelayna's employer, driver, and racing partner. More than one eyebrow raised in surprised --and concern. The two were known to be like siblings, but something must have gone very very wrong to make the older of the two pick up a wrench... in each hand.
"Where is she?! Where?!" The nearest mechanic gulped, afraid at how quickly the pink-haired girl had gotten so close so fast. Layna eyed him, both her face and the wrench hovering inches from his face. He could do no more than point Layna in the obvious direction: her own hovercraft pit. Layna snorted in his face and stalked off like a troll, stomping and swinging the wrench as she walked. Her yellow and gray mechanic uniform-jumpsuit-thing did not make her less imposing.

It was just so, so tempting.
You see, cookies were a sort of rarity in Khthonia. In fact…well, most food was a rarity in Khthonia, where a majority of the population was in poverty. The young racer was no exception, as she lived alone with her brother in the city of Hogwash. The two of them, though both raced, didn’t pull in a lot of money unless one of them managed to win a race. Which, unfortunately for them (and for her brother’s ego), wasn’t very often.
In their hovercraft pit, however…Layna kept a cookie jar. She had told Juli the first day that they had worked together that the cookie jar was off limits, that it was Layna’s personal property, and that Juliette could NEVER look inside. It made the young blonde racer question if the contents of the jar were really cookies, but being as she respected her authorities, she never peeked inside.
But that morning, she felt her stomach rumble. She hadn’t won a race in what seemed like forever, so therefore, she hadn’t eaten a decent meal in a while. And while she was sitting in the pit, that jar was just calling her name…
”Juliette! Juliette~! Open me! I’m full of deliiiicious cookies! Layna will never know!”
Before she knew what happened, Juli had ripped off the cover of the jar and was digging the last cookie out of the jar. Just before she devoured it, she stopped; this was the last cookie, Layna would surely find out! But another rumble of her stomach pushed her over the edge, and she ate the cookie as quickly as possible.
But only five minutes ago she had seen Layna rampaging through the darkness of the hanger, and she made a run for it. Her mutation came in use some times. It was an understatement to say she felt terrible and wanted to apologize, but she really didn’t want to feel the wrath of the older, pink-haired woman. Somehow, hiding in her pit made her feel safer, completely unaware that her mechanic in a matching uniform was storming her way towards her at that very moment. tag: claus!; words: 362; notes: omnomnom~ ; music: some pokemon battle music that has been stuck in my head ALL DAY |

Magdelayna didn't hide her approach to the team's pit. Juliette, she knew, would see her infrared image no matter how or where she entered the hanger from so, shoulders hunched and wrenched clasped with white knuckles, Layna stationed herself at the front of the sectioned-off pit entrance. The only way out now was to open the hangar door to the racetrack and run, an escape attempt Layna would most definitely see.
She narrowed her eyes and pursed her lips, surveying all the possible hiding places. Anyone that had gotten a taste of Layna's unforgiving wrath knew that look: Layna was debating the best way by which to wring the truth out of her victim. Yet a gleam of something even less serious than her cavewoman posture hinted that the rampaging mechanic wasn't going to immediately wrench-clobber the culprit on sight. Juliette was, after all, something akin to a sister and family always bent the rules for each other... right?
The pair had been through a lot together as mechanic and racer to get where they were, which wasn't even very far, and Layna had always admired and worried for the fifteen year old. Juliette's only real family was her older brother --and competition. That made Tybalt, not only a biased rival, but a pretty lousy conversationalist when it came to "girl things". Cue Magdelayna's attempt at being the older sister Juliette never had. The pink haired mechanic, however, did not make the most... ideal model both on and off the course for certain extreme reasons. Shouting "HA! I'VE GOT YOU NOW!" and diving head first into the hovercraft seat in an attempt to surprise the culprit was not exactly the best way to deal with someone that had just nicked the last, deliciously sentimental prize offered to someone by a lord as a token of a craft well maintained.
"HA I'VE GOT YOU NOW!" Layna bellowed as she launched herself from the platform into the cockpit, dropping the wrenches on the seat to grope across the dark space for Juliette's tiny body. "You dirty little thief! You knew better and you still took it!" The mechanic hadn't quite cleared the side-paneling and hung, half-in and half-out, with her feet kicking in frustration as she wormed her way into the little hole on "You're doomed you hear me! Doo--" Layna cut herself off and the flailing ceased, upon realization that Juliette was not hiding in the hovercraft. For a moment, Layna hung limp, glowering at the pedals at the bottom of the craft. "You knew she wasn't here and you didn't warn me. I am disappointed in you." She softly scolded the craft, knowing full well she was in the most awkward position ever. Getting out would be much harder than getting in.

Watching everything that had transpired, her eyes were wide, and when she noticed Lanie was stuck….she had to hold back her laughter.
It wouldn’t be really courteous to laugh at someone who wanted to throttle your neck, and it really wasn’t courteous to laugh at someone who was hanging half out of a hovercraft because they were too big to fit into it. Standing up from the dirty pit floor, Juli brushed off her uniform before approaching Layna.
Tapping her on the back, Juli’s quiet voice sounded amused. “Are you okay, Lanie?”
Somewhere in her head, Juliette knew that this wasn’t a good thing to be doing. Layna, when she was mad, was like a rampaging bull; she didn’t stop until she had her target impaled on her horns, and Juli was like a tiny, squishy little matador that stood no chance against the hot-tempered bull.
Then again, it’d be different if the bull was stuck in a hovercraft. Maybe if she helped her, it’d alleviate the tension?
Grabbing Layna around the waist, she began to pull. Gritting her teeth, she pulled as hard as she could muster, which, although wasn’t a lot, was still a good deal for a girl that small. Her arms were strong; those hovercrafts didn’t shift well, and one needed arm strength to make them accelerate during the heat of a race.
“Okay, I think you’re really stuck,” Juli sighed, dropping Layna’s body and going around the other side of the hovercraft to peer through it at her face.
“Oh, and uh,” she began, looking down so her blonde fringe masked her embarrassed expression, “I’m really really really really really really sorry I ate your cookie. I think that’s why you’re mad…” Besides being visually perceptive, Juli was emotionally perceptive as well. Or maybe it was her guilt talking, one couldn’t tell.
“I was just sooo hungry,” she continued, still staring at the seat of the hovercraft, fingers twirling the ends of her long blonde ponytail around themselves. “And it won’t happen again…”
She honestly wasn’t trying to guilt trip Layna, it just came with her cute appearance and genial personality. While most people act innocent to try and get out of something, Juli was just genuinely innocent. Hopefully, that would somehow appeal to this raging bull that was Layna Bentis… tag: claus!; words: 398; notes: i dunno :'D lol; music: the creep - TLI |

Layna had fallen into a sour sullen state of being --which many would have been glad for since it was much less violent, unless one counted the daggers in her eyes, but even those were rendered useless by the steeley interior of the hovercraft-- when a soft little finger poked her very aching back and a soft little voice peeped into the darkness with a giggle of false innocence.
"Are you okay, Lanie?"
"DO I LOOK OKAY?" Magdelayna's rely echoed with the boom of a giant and, while it may have sounded threatening to the little girl (and the mechanics in the other hangar who must have heard it), Layna clamped her hands over her ears as her own words rattled around inside her head for a solid five seconds after she'd said them. Lucky for the upturned mechanic, no one could see her expression.
"OPHF! What--" Arms and legs got tangled in the driving mechanism as the little girl tried her mightiest and tried to haul the unsuspecting Layna out of the hovercraft. Unfortunately, Juliette was too young to force Layna out and Layna hadn't been prepared to help with the proper leverage... and only managed to make it worse. "Banana nuggets! Will you hold on a second, girl?" Layna did her best to direct her voice backward by craning her neck under a propped arm to avoid another headache inducing reverberation. It seemed to work, but without Juliette pulling, Layna slumped forward in an even more uncomfortable position. If she had laser eyes she could sear a hole through the bottom of the craft...
"I am-- not-- stuck! I'm just--" She growled, knowing full well the shadow over her face was Juliette's, and wriggled trying to find a way to push off the pedals and get her hand out from behind her head cause it did no good there with her elbow around her neck... "--a little stuck." But the words were nigh lost beneath a flurry of really's and an apology that Layna new she was better off not seeing. Sometimes Juliette made her taste buds ache she was so sweet.
A long, heavy, moaning sigh. She rolled her eyes, head bobbing side to side as she responded. "Help me out and I'll forgive you." The obvious answer since she did feel sorta bad for wanting to beat the girl for eating a cookie. After all, who could resist a cookie?

Her mechanic was in a very, very, very bad mood, and Juli, being the sweet-hearted soul she was, was kind of upset by that. She didn’t like that Laynie was mad, and she didn’t like even more that she was mad at her. No matter what she could say, however, probably wouldn’t convince the raging mechanic that Juli hadn’t meant to take the cookie.
Nodding her head in agreement, the blonde racer sighed a little. “I’ll help you, of course!” she replied, but left her statement hanging as if she were to speak once more, but paused thoughtfully. Tapping her chin, she looked as if a major brainstorm was going on inside her little head.
“But…how am I going to get you out?” she finally mused. Apparently the brainstorm hadn’t worked very well, because she looked down at her pink-haired mechanic once more, apologetic. She couldn’t help but feel completely responsible; if she hadn’t eaten the cookie, Layna wouldn’t be stuck in the hovercraft right now. If only there was a way to slide her out…
Looking down, she noticed a tub of grease sitting in the bottom of the craft. If it were possible, a lightbulb clicked on above her head and she looked up at the woman with a smile. “I have an idea!”
Easily she extended her arm down, reaching for the tub at the bottom of the craft. She was a small girl even with the fact that she was still very young, so she could move inside the craft a lot easier than the larger woman who’s lower half was protruding from the vehicle’s window.
“Grease is slippery,” she explained for no reason at all, dipping her fingers into the goo and rubbing her fingers back and forth with a soapy ease. “And you use it all the time to make the engine’s part slide easier! If I grease you up, maybe you’ll slide out like the parts of the engine do!”
Despite how disgusting it sounded, Juli was proud of herself. Maybe now Layna wouldn’t be wishing her dead, or something crazy like that. Not that she’d ever think the pink-haired woman would do that…she hoped. They’d spent too many nights preoccupied with sleepovers and makeovers (much to her brother’s dismay) for Juli to think otherwise. tag: layna!; words: 391; notes: sorry its bad D: ; music: none |
