However, because it was a clean and powerful non-renewable resource, the high demand for Aether lead to excessive mining which triggered the first round of natural disasters that would destroy the Earth. AUREOLE (aw-ree-ol) The major deity of Khthonia and Elysia. Aureole is a creation goddess who is said to have created the world through wind and that the air is her very breath. She is said to be both benevolent and vicious, and in many myths about her it is clear that she has terrible mood swings. Her followers both fear and adore her. Her followers are called Aureolites. ANIMA SPLICING The illegal surgical practice of becoming a Chimera (having human parts replaced with animal parts). It is considered illegal because not only does it mess with the ethics of what separates humans from animals but also because most animals are now mutated or diseased, and anyone who goes under the surgery may suffer horrible consequences from bad animal parts. THE BLUE The sky, which is considered the last unclaimed territory in all of the world and therefore considered the true paradise over Elysia by many. CONCLAVE EGG The common name for the eggs found at the Conclave of Birds. At the age of twelve, Aureolites are sent to the Conclave of Birds in a test of character. Those that pass have a conclave egg bestowed upon them and when the bird hatches, it will imprint upon the human, forming a pair-bond. These eggs are deemed holy to Aureoleans and fetch a high price on the black market. THE DOWN BELOW The nickname for Khthonia. Other nicknames for Khthonia include: The Downside, The Underneath, Rock Bottom, and Dead Man’s Land to name a few. ELYSIA (el-ee-zhee-ah) The name given to the floating islands as one collective country. After the last earthquake that triggered the beginning of the end for Khthonians, parts of the earth began to break off and rise into the sky due to copious amounts of Aether within those sections of land. All of Elysia is ruled by a monarchy and protected by the H.A.W.K.S. The official name of the people is Elysians. H.A.W.K.s: An acronym that stands for Highness’s Aerial War Knights. They are the air force under the control of the King of Elysia that serves to protect the people from the wrath of sky pirates. HOVERCRAFT A machine similar in build to a jet fighter powered by aether. It cannot fly very high without breaking down, but it can hover and move incredibly fast depending on the model type. Hovercraft racing is the most popular sport in both Khthonia and Elysia. Hovercrafts can only be owned by racers that rank Class B or higher, or by civilians with a permit that must be bought within the game. KHTHONIA (kitho-nee-uh) The new name given to Earth after it was all but destroyed by a series of natural disasters. Khthonia only has one continent - also called Khthonia – that is almost all deserts. Due to all the chemicals that entered the ocean after a wave of tsunamis the ocean has become acidic. The official name of the people is Khthonians. THE UPSIDE The nickname for Elysia. Other nicknames for Elysia include: The Above, The Highlands, The Miracle World, Land of Milk and Honey, Paradise, and The Noble’s Land. VENNY The universal currency of The Blue. Venny is printed with blue ink and features the past kings of Khthonia and past famous nobles.
